William Chamberlayne

There are a number of spellings of this name, including Chamberlayne and Chamberlain.
The son of Francis Chamberlayne of London, William Chamberlayne was born at Totteridge, Hertfordshire. Educated at Rugby School, he was admitted to Trinity as a pensioner in 1697. He won a scholarship two years later, and graduated BA in 1700-1. He became a Fellow in 1703, a year before receiving his MA. In 1707 he contributed £30 towards the beautification of Trinity Chapel.
